Last week began the final month for RW Peter Rinaudo and me to visit the lodges of District 9A as District Deputy and Associate Grand Marshall. First as always, was Moosup 113 on Tuesday with RW Ken Sheldon running a concise and productive business meeting. Then came Friday and Corner Stone-Quinebaug 122. Unfortunately, RW Jim Verge was under the weather and was forced to not attend but the bright spot was observing SW Eric Bruyere run his first meeting from the oriental chair. This Wednesday the 14th we will be enjoying the hospitality of WB Josh Boise and all the brothers of Moriah 15.
This last Sunday morning, RW Peter Rinaudo, RW John Rhoads, JW Tim Loomis, JS Gary Watkins, and I enjoyed breakfast once again at Moosup 113. It’s a great way to start your Sunday and only costs $8 all-u-can-eat. This weeks proceeds were donated to a local animal rescue/shelter. The next breakfast I believe is scheduled for Mar. 25th and there’s an excellent chance at least RW John and I will be there at about 9:15am.
After breakfast, we all made the trip North to Day Kimball Hospital to visit Putnam 46 Bro. Steve Mortensen who was hopefully getting ready for discharge later in the day. The prior Friday, Steve felt pain and discomfort in his chest region and wisely decided to go to the hospital for treatment. By Sunday he felt much better and was anxious to go home, of which he did.
I would like to remind all Putnam officers that we are performing a courtesy Master Mason degree for a brother from Purity Lodge 150 on June 16th at 10:00am. There will be a quick lunch at the break before resuming into the second half. The rehearsal schedule is the three Thursday evenings before the degree. We can additionally schedule some informal read-through sessions in April and May for those who would like some extra practice.
Our next major fundraiser will be the Annual Spring BBQ on April 21st from 3:00-5:00pm. The cost per meal is $12 and the menu is virtually the same as last year. Tickets will be available at the lodge in the very near future for purchasing and also for selling. We need this to be a successful event so please sign out a packet of tickets to sell. We all know how outstanding this meal is so let’s get our community around us knowing it too. If it tastes good, they will come.
WB Barry Shead has been working hard to put together a Cigar Social and I’m happy to announce that on Sunday, June 3, from 2:00 to 5:00pm there will be one. The cost will be $35 and will include Shrimp Cocktail, Scallops with Bacon, Tomato Basil Bruschetta, and several other appetizers. There will also be a few door prizes, one of them being a quality cigar. Open to all Masons and Friends of Masons. Our dear departed brother, WB Dean Bunnell, would have adored this event. We would like to honor that fact by appropriately naming the social after him. Although he has been called many things, he was affectionately know by most as Dino. If anyone can think of a clever title incorporating Bro. Dean, by all means send it in. You know, something like “Dino’s Place” but only way, way, way better.
Lady Connie has set the menu for the Quarterly Communication on March 31. We will be eating homemade meat lasagna (and veggie too), Caesar salad, and toasted garlic bread. I’m sure there will also be desserts. Remember, the stated begins at promptly 10:00am. Lunch served after the meeting. Hope to see you there.
The visit to Washington 3 in Warren, RI has been postponed due to weather.
